WhitePages - Holiday List (Concept Test)
Holiday List Manager
- Organization: WhitePages
- Timeframe: 2010
- My role: Sr. UX Designer (wireframes, flows)
- Team members: Visual Designer: Kyle Myers
Problem
Customers needed a quick way to save multiple contacts they found on WhitePages and generate mailing labels for holiday cards.
Success measures
- Gain 100% new members through this service.
Key Challenges
The primary difficulty was in getting the labels to print out from the web browser onto Avery Labels. This required a lot of tweaking and testing, and some extra help text for the user to follow.
Solution
I designed an inline-editing interface to quickly update names (from "John Doe" to "John and Jane Doe"). To save on development time and test the concept out quickly, I designed very lightweight browsing/jump controls for the contacts list.
Results
- The design tested really well and was used by many customers. We did not reach the membership gain level of 100%, but also received significant positive feedback from users who tried it. Due to concerns about marketing fraud, the service was taken down two weeks after launch.
